A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE: EARLY 00s MUSIC EDITION

From time-to-time, I like to take a trip down memory lane to the early two thousands when I was a middle school student coming-of-age, and exploring all that the world had to offer. One of the primary ways by which I remember my life at the beginning of the twenty first century is through music. Usher, Alicia Keys, Destiny’s Child, Ginuwine, Sisqo, Ashanti, and many other artists stand out, in my mind, as artists that had a lasting impact on me. It wasn’t that these artists were revolutionary or groundbreaking, but rather that they have come to encapsulate my adolescent life during the early twentieth century. Here’s a collection of the songs that I enjoyed back when I was a middle school student between 2000 and 20002.

All jokes aside, Lisa Raye looked stunning in Sisqo’s “Incomplete” video. When mama got out that car!

Don’t act like y’all ain’t play “U Got It Bad” non stop! Might I add that Usher was all kinds of delicious during his “8701″ days!

I throw shade at Ashanti, but she did her thing during the early 00s. The “Happy” video is my guilty pleasure. Ashanti was a wardrobe disaster in the “Happy” video. I dunno who Murder Inc had pissed off, but they styled her something foolish.

Alicia keys had female felons singing in a cornfield to symbolize “the struggle.”

Who didn’t love “Emotions” by Destiny’s Child during middle school? The three frame video was EVERYTHING! I wanted to be Beyonce with the side-ponytail.

When I tell you “Differences” by Ginuwine was my jam during the early 00s. It was me and my girlfriend “song” in seventh grade.

My favorite song in 8th grade was Truth Hurt’s “Addictive.” Too bad they stole that Indian woman vocals.
