  1. Wow. Beautiful post. I love the plethora of responses.

  2. Very beautiful and inspiring!

  3. The one day I did not look on your Face book! damn…

  4. Guess I’ll join.

“My black is the power of many rolled into one, demonstrating the strength, perseverance, love, and might of a people whose skin is sometimes sunkissed dark by the sun, or lightly toasted like the sands. My black is a testament, tribute, and a commitment to take what was offered to me and fight for what was not so the next generation can be even more free than I. My black is an exclusive truth made clear to the sight by the bright inner light within my people whose skin comes as dark as the night.”

  5. Very Interesting! I don’t see the point in making my black out to be anything more than what it is – it’s no more mysterious than that! It’s a fact! It’s my nature and my nurture, my spirit and my soul. It’s my grandma’s calloused hands, my grandaddy’s fierce pride, my daddy’s survival in the face of destruction and my mama’s insistence that despite the obvious, there was nothing else but black that mattered. It’s the FBI coming looking for my brother for being a Panther, it’s my sister lip-synching Aretha, it’s walking through downtown shouting SOUL POWER at 10 years old. It’s the air I breathe and my aura, too. It’s in my speech because out of the abundance of the heart the mouth will speak, and it’s in my food because I am what I eat. It’s in my man’s hair, his lips, his nose and his spirit because he is a reflection of me/when we lay together I get up in a double-black funk and I don’t think you can get any blacker than that!

  6. I just came across this through your Twitter feed, and I have to say I appreciate it. I have spent a long period of my life ashamed of my black identity. I never knew to think that with this black skin that I carry with me every day that I could erase the “Scarlet Letter” mentality that I have carried for so long. I guess if I could complete the statement, I would add that “My black is something that should never be taken for granted, nor something that I should be ashamed of.”

Thank you for starting this dialogue, and for helping me to do some serious reflection.

  7. Great article. It is unfortunate that over the last years, the
travel industry has had to tackle terrorism, SARS, tsunamis,
bird flu virus, swine flu, and also the first ever entire global economic depression.
Through everything the industry has really proven to be solid, resilient plus dynamic, locating new methods to deal with adversity.
There are usually fresh difficulties and possibilities
to which the field must yet again adapt and react.
