It is extremely hard to believe that people don't know the risks of STDs in 2010. Yes, there are surely misconceptions and believed myths (AiDs from kissing, for example), but I think intentional ignorance and false sense of invincibility may be the bigger culprit. That people prefer raw sex, thrive off it, and insist on it is saddening and alarming.
I've seen ads for Raw Parties back in NY. WTF!? How can people live like this?? We think we'll never get "hit". "That'll never happen to me. It just feels better". Absolute madness.

One in 5 people in the US have herpes! I don't recall numbers, but I've gotten the strong impression that the black gay male demographic is probably the most at risk segment of the population for getting HIV.

These kinds of depressing statistics are what make me keep it in my pants. Until and unless I meet a man who I fully trust, and we're in a committed and serious relationship, it's just not worth the risk for 20 minutes of pleasure. There's just no other way to be sure that you don't catch something. Abstinence, then monogamy (not serial monogamy!) is my plan.

Most know the risks and don't give a damn...That is the reality. Some of them have the belief that they are going to get HIV anyway so they take no precautions thus turning their thoughts into an unfortunate reality.
Honestly, I don't know WHAT can be done in terms of prevention education. There is so much out there yet STD rates keep soaring.
